Kampung Arab in Palembang

Wonderful indonesia

Palembang is the house to society of various ethnicities. There are Chinese descendants, Indians, Arabs and some other races. Each cultural group has their very own community, whether it be a home, organization or congregation. A residence or residence which accommodates a certain ethnic group mostly houses people of that same cultural background. An example of this can be the Kampung Arab in Palembang, where taxpayers of Arab heritage mostly dwell in this particular location. The Kampung Arab of Palembang is located both upstream and downstream along the Musi River. The other day we visited one of the Kampung Arabs of Palembang, that was the Kampung Arab of Lorong Almunavar, Keloukhan 13 Ulu, Palembang.

The Houses of Kampung Arab Lorong Al Munawar usually is no different than every other dwelling in Palembang. Based on their history, the initial Arab immigrants in Palembang came across the medium of the Middle East to spread the faith of Islam. The homes of the respected seniors in every Kampung Arab are located to confront the Musi River. This segmentation is based on the level of spiritual seniority among them. Every house usually consists of a few heads of households, as many generations will occupy each dwelling. The Matrimonial Society of the Kampung Arab Society. Despite their eloquent assimilation to native Palembang society, the Kampung Arab communities possess a different cultural difference in regards to matrimonial matters.

Based on their culture, a female of Arab heritage can’t marry a guy of non Arab heritage. But, an Arab person can freely be wed to a non Arab woman. A marriage between an Arab woman and a non Arab man is going to be considered as a shame by their society, as based on their belief, it’s only the male who may carry the lineage of Rasulullah and not the girls. Consequently, If an Arab woman marries out of their race, then the bloodlines of Rasulullah is going to be stopped at these girls. We were so blessed to have fulfilled some kids of the Kampung Arab during our travels.

Initially, they were shy and reluctant to take pictures, frequently running off to hide behind the walls of their house. Nevertheless, after some time they gradually warmed up and became more demanding, even asking Nabila and Malikal to combine them and play with. Not one of the kids I saw played games on a cellphone. They’d play traditional games, like bypass rope, shadow puppets, and soccer. Once I was a small kid, shadow puppets have been called ambulan’. Ambulan comes from the word to ambul, which means to throw pieces of paper into the air. I allow my children enjoy the games with them. I wanted my kids to undergo traditional games, get familiar with their fellow compatriots, know about their homeland and be mindful of their historical origins.
